Company Profile

Building Africa’s digital future

Liquid Telecom’s expansion into South Africa through the acquisition of Neotel created the largest pan-African fibre network and B2B communication services provider, offering a unique set of next generation converged services and international connectivity to telecom operators, governments and businesses via a single fibre network across sub-Saharan Africa.

A subsidiary of Econet Global, Liquid Telecom was founded in 1997 as a satellite and voice operator under Econet Satellite Service. Rebranding to Liquid Telecom in 2004, the high-speed, cross-border fibre network was launched, linking Southern Africa to the rest of the world in 2009. Now Liquid Telecom provides services to more than 50 global wholesale carriers operating in Eastern,Central and Southern Africa, Europe, North America and Asia Pacific, as well as the national and international enterprise market.

Our South African operation began in 2006 (initially under the name The Second Network Operator and then Neotel) as South Africa’s first converged telecommunications network operator, building a pure-IP Next Generation Network over a fibre optic backbone that now spans over 40 major cities across South Africa and over 10,000km of metro fibre.

Operators and users alike are seeing the benefits of our reliable, cost-effective communications infrastructure. We set out to challenge the status quo. Today, we're changing the African telecoms industry, the lives of millions and even the continent itself. Driven by a mission to offer the highest quality and most extensive connectivity to all people in Africa. We are building Africa’s digital future by connecting Africa’s people. This is only the beginning, we will continue on our growth trajectory, creating opportunities for our customers and team members.
